Youth learn the foundations of DJ through modern controllers and develop their identity through music exploration. Hands-on practical skills of blending, scratching and mixing are the groundwork to building their confidence as DJs. Artist Mentors support youth on purchasing equipment, finance, networking, brand identity and more. By completion of the program, youth will have the knowledge and confidence to DJ parties and major events.

This program teaches youth the complete technical skills needed to construct their own garments. This requires learning to draft patterns and mastering the sewing machine. Youth get to express their creativity during Vivacity where they create one-of-a-kind garments to be showcased to their peers, community and industry professionals. Artist Mentors will support their creative entrepreneurial spirit by taking a look inside the business of fashion.

The photography program teaches youth the fundamentals on how to use professional cameras and image creation. Through hands-on learning, they will learn technical skills, develop their artistic vision and build a professional portfolio. By the end of the program, youth are equipped to pursue a professional career in photography.

Graphic Design and Web Development

Successfully launched summer 2018, this program for female-identified youth provides them with the skills and resources to start a career in graphic design and web development. We focused on female-identified youth because we recognized statistically that the industry is dominated by men and we wanted to see a change. The fundamentals of the program include: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Through these applications, youth graduate with a functioning website with their own personal brand. We connect them with industry professionals and provide field trips to design agencies to expose them to opportunities that are endless.
